Meet Our Founders

Marc Racicot, former Governor of Montana and longtime military and legal public servant, has earned national respect for his bipartisan integrity and constitutional stewardship. He later chaired the Republican National Committee and remains a prominent voice calling for principled leadership.

Mae Nan Ellingson, the youngest delegate to Montana’s 1972 Constitutional Convention, helped shape the state’s modern Constitution and later built a distinguished legal career. She continues to champion civic education and constitutional integrity, including through her work with Friends of the Montana Constitution.

Bob Brown is a lifelong Montana educator and statesman who served as Senate President and Secretary of State, championing civic education and constitutional integrity. He is widely respected for his deep knowledge of Montana’s political history and commitment to public service.

Raised on an eastern Montana farm, Daniel Kemmis graduated from Sidney Senior High School and went on to earn a degree in government at Harvard. In a career that has centered on strengthening democratic practice, he served as Speaker of the Montana House and Mayor of Missoula. Author of several influential books on civic life, he is widely regarded as a leading voice on community and democracy.

Mike Halligan is a Vietnam veteran and longtime public servant who spent over 20 years in the Montana Senate and later led the Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation. His career reflects a deep commitment to justice, child protection, and statewide philanthropic leadership.

Joel Krautter is a Montana attorney and former state legislator known for bipartisan problem-solving and advocacy for rural communities. He practices law in Billings and remains active in public service and statewide civic engagement.

Frank Garner, a Kalispell native and former Chief of Police, served four terms in the Montana House, shaping bipartisan policy on public safety, accountability, and government integrity. His career reflects a lifelong dedication to community service and strengthening Montana’s institutions.
